Privacy policy

The short version

I do not sell your data. I do not run ads. I do not build a profile of you, and there is no advertising network anywhere on this site.

What follows is the long version, because a privacy policy that only says the reassuring part is not worth reading.

Who runs this site

Host in full: Hostinger International Ltd, 61 Lordou Vironos Street, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus. Hostinger publishes no phone number; they are reached through their contact page.

What is collected, and when

Nothing at all if you just read. No account, no sign up, no tracking pixel.

If you leave a comment, WordPress stores the name and email you type, your comment, your IP address and your browser user agent. The IP and user agent are kept because they are what makes spam filtering possible. Your email is never published and never shown to other readers.

Comment avatars come from Gravatar, a service run by Automattic in the United States. To fetch one, a hashed version of your email address is sent to them. If you would rather that did not happen, comment without an email you use on Gravatar, or write to me and I will remove the comment.

Server logs. Hostinger records the usual technical information every web server records: IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps, error traces. I do not use these for analytics.

Analytics

I plan to use Google Analytics to see which pages get read. It is not switched on yet, and when it is, it will only run after you accept it.

Until you choose, nothing analytics related stores anything on your device. Refusing costs you nothing: the site behaves exactly the same, and I will not ask again for six months.

There is no advertising storage, no ad personalization and no audience sharing. Those are refused permanently in the site configuration, not left to a checkbox.

Cookies

  • Your consent choice. One cookie, kept six months, holding yes or no. It exists so I stop asking.
  • Comment details. If you tick the box to save your name and email for next time, WordPress stores them in your browser. If you do not tick it, nothing is stored.
  • Google Analytics. Only after you accept, and only then.

You can change your choice at any time. Taking consent back is the same one click as giving it.

Your rights

I am established in France, so European data protection law applies to this site wherever you read it from. You can ask me to show you the data I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Write to contact@testedbyemilie.com and I will answer within a month.

If you are in California or another US state with a privacy statute, the same requests apply. I have never sold or shared personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.

If you think I have handled this badly, you can complain to the CNIL, the French data protection authority.

How long things are kept

Comments and their metadata stay as long as the article is online, because a comment thread that loses half its replies makes no sense. Ask me to delete yours and I will.

Consent cookies expire after six months. Server logs follow whatever Hostinger keeps, which I do not control.

Children

This site is not aimed at children under 13 and I do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If the change is significant, such as switching analytics on, the notice will say so rather than slipping it in quietly.
