The FOREO FAQ Swiss 202 looks unlike any other LED mask I have tested. Instead of placing LEDs across the face, FOREO put them in the gold frame around the eyes and use a transparent silicone sheet to carry the light toward 600 small points.
So here’s my full review of the FOREO LED mask, with my score, the real LED count, and the results with my before and after.

Shelved since August 2026I ran it for 4 weeks and 20 sessions, and my skin came out slightly worse than it went in, because I’d swapped a dense LED mask for this one. The 600 light points FOREO advertises are openings in a silicone sheet, lit by the 50 LEDs I counted in the headband, and not one of them sits against your face. FOREO publishes neither irradiance nor dose, so the most important performance number remains unknown.
Buy it if
- You want the lightest LED mask you can find, because 169 g on a soft strap really does disappear.
- You want to keep your eyes open and read through a session, but majority of at home LED masks allow it now.
Skip it if
- You want to know how much light reaches your skin, because FOREO publishes no irradiance figure anywhere.
- You want light on your nose, your chin, your jaw or your smile lines, since the silicone sheet covers none of them.
- You already own an LED mask with diodes against your face, because this one is a step down from it.
- You want a timer you can see, since the only one is inside the app.
What I tested: the FOREO FAQ Swiss 202
I bought the FAQ Swiss 202 on FOREO’s US site for $799, with my own money. There’s no affiliate link in this article, no code, and I’ve never spoken to anyone at FOREO.
I have the LED mask Foreo Swiss 202, not the 202 plus. The plus adds 9 LEDs in the forehead panel plus what FOREO describes as 50% stronger light, but without any concrete numbers, I do not consider this one is worth the upgrade, so everything below is about Foreo FAQ Swiss 202.
I ran it through August 2026, 4 weeks, 5 evenings a week for 10 minutes on red only. I stopped using my Nooance Elite X600 (see the full review here) completely and kept the rest of my skincare routine unchanged. I assessed pores, brightness and evenness. I had a little summer heat-related acne, so I excluded acne from my result, and I do not have wrinkles or fine lines to assess on my skin.

My own Before & After
I did not have any good results after using the FOREO LED mask, and my skin actually went down. By week 3 my tone was less even than when I started and the pores along my nose were reading larger in the same light.
That said, none of this means the FAQ Swiss 202 damaged my skin, this is more due to the fact I’d taken my usual LED mask off, the Nooance Elite X600, and put this one on in its place, so those 4 weeks show ground I’d gained slowly coming back.
FOREO clinical study with Before & After
The problem of FOREO is that the only before-and-after comparison available is poorly done. There is no information about the protocol; the model’s skin had a few imperfections that needed treatment but no signs of skin aging, and the photos were taken from much too far away to really see the changes…
A good before-and-after comparison is supposed to be done using macro photography, with instrumental measurements, if possible by an independent laboratory…
Else, FOREO’s clinical page claims the device decreases wrinkles by 32%, decreases acne by 48% and decreases sebum by 18%, all in just 2 weeks. However, the study is described as running 28 days on 30 female subjects aged 20 to 45, using the FAQ LED Mask and the FAQ Red Light Serum together.
The public summary does not name the laboratory, describe a control group, list the instruments or provide a full statistical report. It therefore supports the fact that FOREO tested the FAQ 202, but it cannot show how much of the result came from this mask rather than the serum, normal variation or the rest of the protocol.
Irradiance: 1/5
FOREO does not publish the FAQ 202 irradiance. I checked the product page, the online manual, the clinical-results page and the available FDA record. None gives the power reaching the skin in mW/cm², so the dose for a 5-, 10- or 15-minute session cannot be calculated.

Visually speaking, I can see the light ouput is not much powerful: I can stare straight into the lit sheet with no discomfort at all, which isn’t something I can do with the Nooance.

FOREO FAQ 202: is it 600 LEDs or 50?
Every LED mask I’ve scored puts its diodes in the part that faces your skin, but FOREO put them in the frame instead, pointed sideways into the edge of the silicone. The small points across the sheet are holes so light enters from the perimeter, travels through the silicone and makes the points glow.
The page says the LED mask spreads light via 600 LED light points, but a light point isn’t a diode, those are just gaps in the silicone sheet. I counted 50 LEDs on the headband, and those 50 are the entire light source of the device.
To get you a referential, CurrentBody’s 236 LEDs are 110 lit positions, and iRestore’s 360 chips sit inside 120 LEDs. Both figures are higher, even if they are far from the highest numbers in the market, and they still describe LED pointed on your skin, whereas FOREO’s 600 describes perforations in a sheet of silicone…
To end this, I pushed a toothpick into one and it came out the other side, which tells you the openings are open on both faces and some of the light leaves through the front of the mask instead of into your skin.
Large parts of my face received no direct light
The molded curve kept the silicone reasonably close to my cheeks and forehead, but the sheet does not cover my nose, mouth, upper lip, chin or jawline. The open eye frame also removes direct coverage from the eye contour. Those are not small edge gaps because they include the upper-lip lines, crow’s-feet area and lower face that many buyers (including me) want an anti-aging mask to reach.

The FOREO FAQ 202 is FDA-cleared
The FDA cleared the FAQ 201 and FAQ 202 under K240378 on April 19, 2024. The intended uses are LED treatment of wrinkles and mild-to-moderate acne. That is a real, brand-held Class II clearance but it is FDA cleared, not FDA approved.
When I compare it to CurrentBody, whose file belongs to the factory, or to iRestore, whose Cleared Technology badge points at a file its model isn’t listed in, I consider FOREO is doing it right.
Do the 7 colors on the FOREO LED mask do anything?
FOREO answers this one itself because under the color chart it prints: Green, Orange, Purple, Cyan, Yellow light are not intended to have a medical effect.
That leaves red at 650 nm, near-infrared at 850 nm and blue at 465 nm doing the work, and five modes that exist to fill a chart. I’ve never seen a color count justify a single dollar of an LED mask’s price, and here FOREO has written the disclaimer for me.

At a published 169 g, the FAQ 202 is light, and the forehead battery did not bother me. The sheet already has some facial curvature, so it did not hang far away like a completely flat panel. It stayed in place during my sessions, and I had no heat, sweating, pressure marks, irritation or eye fatigue.
The strap adjusts like swimming goggles. It worked, but it was fiddly and did not feel appropriate for an $799 device. The gold frame around my eyes also felt cheap to the touch rather than premium. My mask was still in good condition after 4 weeks, so I have no observed durability failure to report. My concern is limited to how that simple silicone strap may age over several years.
The LED mask has no visible 10-minute timer
My protocol called for 10 minutes, and there is no display or countdown on the device, so I ran a separate timer for every session.
The FAQ Swiss app lets you change duration and intensity, but opening an app to recover a basic timer makes a home mask less convenient. I want an at-home treatment to remove friction compared with scheduling an institute visit. After the required first unlock, I preferred the physical button and used the mask without the app.
Do you need the FOREO app to use the FAQ 202?
To run it, no. To start it the first time, yes. FOREO ships the LED mask locked and you have to register it in the FAQ Swiss app to unlock it, after which the button on the forehead handles colors and on and off by itself, which is how I used it for all 4 weeks.

$799 buys 50 LEDs that never touch your skin, a silicone sheet that skips your nose, mouth, chin and jaw, no irradiance figure, and a wrinkle claim measured with a serum in the protocol. That’s twice what I paid for the iRestore Illumina and more than three times the price of the Nanoleaf…
I would rather pay for a denser LED layout, published power and direct coverage than for the app and unusual transparent design. This is one of the worst LED masks I have tested.

FOREO has a verifiable FDA clearance, publishes an EU declaration of conformity for the FAQ 202, and provides a 2-year warranty. My unit completed all 20 sessions without overheating, a failed light, a skin reaction or another fault.
The open eye area let me see and move normally, and I felt no discomfort even when looking toward the glowing sheet. FOREO’s manual still says not to stare directly at the LEDs, and not to combine it with Vitamin A, Retinol / Retinoids, AHAs, Benzoyl Peroxide and Vitamin C as incompatible with a session.
Who shouldn’t buy the FOREO FAQ Swiss 202
Skip this one if you recognize yourself
- You want direct LEDs distributed across your face. I counted 50 LEDs in the eye frame, all feeding a perforated silicone light guide from its edge.
- Your target is your jawline, your chin or your smile lines. The silicone sheet ends above all three, so no amount of sessions puts light there.
- You want to know the dose you’re getting. There’s no published irradiance, so J/cm² per session can’t be calculated from anything FOREO prints.
Am I still using the FOREO FAQ Swiss 202?
Updated August 2026. No. I stopped at 4 weeks and went back to the Nooance Elite X600 the same evening. I’ve kept the FAQ Swiss 202 rather than returning it, because I want to keep showing people what’s inside it, and that’s the only job it has left here.
What I still want to know about the FOREO LED mask
- The irradiance at the skin for every mode, with its measurement condition.
- The dose delivered by the recommended 5-, 10- and 15-minute sessions.
- A facial map showing how much light reaches the eye contour, nose, upper lip, chin and jaw.
- A full exact-model clinical report that separates the mask from the Red Light Serum.
- A visible countdown on the device, without requiring the app.

How many LEDs does the FOREO FAQ 202 actually have?
I counted 50 LEDs, all of them inside the headband. The 600 LED light points FOREO advertises are openings molded into the silicone sheet, which carries light from those 50 diodes rather than producing any of its own.
Is the FOREO FAQ 202 FDA-approved?
No. It’s FDA-cleared, which is a different and lighter procedure. The file is K240378, decided on 19 April 2024, held by Foreo, Inc. and covering FAQ 201, FAQ 202 for over-the-counter wrinkle reduction.
What irradiance does the FOREO FAQ 202 deliver?
FOREO doesn’t say, anywhere. What it does publish is a 680 mAh battery at 3.7 V lasting up to 90 minutes, which works out at under 1.7 watts for the entire device.
Do you need the app to use the FOREO FAQ 202?
Only once. You have to register the LED mask in the FAQ Swiss app to unlock it, and after that the button on the forehead runs it. The app is also the only place with a timer, since the device itself has no display.
Does the FOREO FAQ 202 cover the whole face?
No. The silicone sheet leaves out the nose, the mouth and the smile lines, the chin and the jaw, and the frame around the eyes holds the LEDs sideways, so the eye contour gets no direct light either.
